What Is an hCG Calculator?
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone produced during pregnancy. After implantation, hCG levels rise rapidly, typically doubling every 48-72 hours in early pregnancy. This calculator helps you track whether your hCG levels are rising at a healthy rate.
How Does It Work?
The calculator uses the formula: doubling time = (hours × ln2) ÷ ln(hCG2 ÷ hCG1). A normal doubling time in early pregnancy (up to about 6 weeks) is 48-72 hours. After 6 weeks, the rate of increase slows, and hCG typically peaks between weeks 8-11.
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your first hCG level from a blood test (beta-hCG).
- Enter your second hCG level from a follow-up blood test.
- Enter the hours between tests (commonly 48 hours).
Understanding Results
48-72 hours: Normal doubling time in early pregnancy. Over 72 hours: Slower than typical. This may be normal but should be discussed with your doctor. Under 48 hours: Faster than average, which can be normal in very early pregnancy. A single hCG value is less informative than the trend over time. Always discuss your results with your healthcare provider.
